XAVI HERRERO

I grew up in a photography studio in Terrassa. I am a filmmaker, photographer, and cultural manager. In 2014, I left my professional life in Barcelona, working for TV3 and production companies like El Terrat and Dorna, and moved to Ibiza and Formentera. In 2016, I founded IBIZACINEFEST , which I continue to direct and program. At the same time, I have produced and directed four feature films related to the island of Ibiza. "Moonface. A Woman at War" won two Silver Biznagas at the 2019 Málaga Film Festival. With my fifth feature film, "Salka, in No Man's Land," I began a new creative phase focused on collaborative projects in Mauritania with the NGO Un Lápiz, un Dibujo (A Pencil, a Drawing), culminating in the documentary "Kitab" in 2021. In March 2023, I premiered "Du vin dans les voiles" (Wine in Sails) at the Málaga Film Festival. My feature films have been selected and awarded at festivals such as the Málaga Film Festival, Cinespaña, DocsBarcelona, Atlàntida Film Fest, and Vladivostok, among others. They have also participated in industry sections such as the European Film Market, Visions du Réel Industry, Medimed, and Spanish Screenings. I am a member of Docma (Spanish Documentary Film Association) and in May 2022, I received an invitation to join the European Film Academy as a European Film Festival Director. My latest project, filmed in Varanasi, includes the short film "Dom" (2025) and the feature film "Manikarnika" (VIP 2026). In the spring of 2025, back in Barcelona, I began a period of personal growth as a street photographer, publishing my photographs with Leica Fotografie International and creating STREET PHOTOGRAPHY BARCELONA, directing an international festival and leading street photography workshops. My latest photographic project "Streets of Tirana" has been selected for the Off-Arles Festival and will be exhibited from July 6 to 12, 2026 at the Galerie Cezar-Arles.
